Chocolate Apple Cake by Women's Institute
Ingredients
- Cake
- 250g flour
- 25g cocoa
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp bicorbonate of soda
- 100g softened butter
- 250g caster sugar
- 2 eggs
- A few drops of vanilla essence
- 175ml milk
- 2 cooking apples
- Topping
- 450g icing sugar
- 25g cocoa
- 50g softened butter
- 90ml milk
- 8" square tin, lined with greaseproof paper
Instructions
Step 1
Peel, core and thinly slice apples.
Step 2
Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda in a bowl. Set aside.
Step 3
Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time with vanilla essence.
Step 4
Whisk a little of the flour mixture and milk alternately into egg mixture, mixing well after each addition.
Step 5
Stir in chopped apples and spoon mixture into tin.
Step 6
Bake in the oven at 180℃ / gas 7 / 350℉ for 50 minutes.
Step 7
Leave for 5 minutes before turning out. Cool completely and pour over icing.
